Accounting

Assessor
Sets the valuation of all real property in the Township. Assesses property when a building permit is issued on improvements and additions.

The Riverhead Historian compiles detailed historical information regarding the town through research and interviews, and provides information to local media, organizations, institutions, and residents on historic aspects of the town and its citizens.

Planning
It is the mission of the Town of Riverhead Planning Department to provide expert town planning, zoning and environmental assessments for the Town Board, the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals and the Conservation Advisory Council to assist such boards in decision-making process which promotes a well arranged, physically integrated and an environmentally and ecologically sustainable community.

Purchasing
The Purchasing Department is charged with procuring supplies, equipment, goods, and services for all Town departments, ensuring the prudent use of public funds.

Receiver of Taxes
The office of the Tax Receiver is not a policy-making office. We do not determine tax rates. We are responsible for collecting all real property taxes levied by the Town, County, and school districts. Taxes are collected in accordance with New York State Real Property Tax Laws and the Suffolk County Tax Act.

Sanitation
The Town of Riverhead Sanitation Department is the Town Department responsible for controlling the storage and disposal of solid waste generated within the Town. The Sanitation Department has oversight of all residential solid waste, bulk waste, yard waste and recyclables collection and disposal services for the Riverhead Refuse and Garbage District.

The Senior Citizen Department offers a wide variety of programs, activities, and support services for the older residents of the Riverhead community.

Sewer District
The Town of Riverhead formed the Calverton Sewer District in 1999 when the old Grumman property was transferred to the Town. The district consists of 550 acres, which make up the industrial core area. There are three pumping stations that transport wastewater to the treatment plant, which was constructed in the early 1950s. An upgrade of this facility is scheduled to start within the next two years.

Town Attorney
The Town Attorney prepares all ordinances and local laws, prosecutes violations of the town code, and defends litigation brought against the town for civil damages. They prepare and oversee all contracts entered into by the town, and much more.

Town Clerk
The Town Clerk's Office is considered the center of Town Government. It is responsible for recording activities of the Town Government, and it is the central place in which are filed the documents and papers vital to the lives of the townspeople.
