About Us
The Ambulance Corps provides the best pre-hospital emergency care services to the Town of Riverhead.
The volunteers of the Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps (RTVAC) are here to serve you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our highly trained members unselfishly volunteer their time, talents, and energy for the health, safety, and well-being of their neighbors. We are still 100% volunteer, and we take pride in the fact that we can be there for you in your time of need.
The Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps (RTVAC) is a not-for-profit corporation and was founded in 1978 with an initial group of 15 dedicated citizens. It was incorporated in 1996. It has undergone many exciting changes and now stands as an organization of 72 members who are available to respond to any medical emergency within the Town of Riverhead. We are the only volunteer ambulance corps that is a department of a municipality in New York State. RTVAC is licensed to provide ambulance service to the Township of Riverhead, which is an area of approximately 78 square miles and a population of 24,000, and covers all but that area which is overlapped by the Wading River Fire Department. Its volunteer members answer approximately 2000 calls for emergency medical assistance each year from residents and visitors to the Riverhead Town Ambulance District, located in Riverhead, Long Island, New York, and the members put in over 3000 man-hours.
Remember, a flashing "Green Light" means a volunteer is responding to an emergency call. Please remember to yield the right-of-way.
